Raynaud's Cold Hands - Infrared Heat Therapy

!: Raynaud's Cold Hands - Infrared Heat Therapy

While we're sitting at the computer playing, working or just passing time, we may as well be doing something healthy for ourselves. There are many new infrared heat computer accessories made specifically for people who suffer with cold hands. Raynaud's Disease also called Raynaud's Phenomenon is a medical condition with cold hands as a symptom. Actually, Raynaud's causes all extremities to become cold, not just the hands.

Raynaud's was discovered in 1862 by a French doctor, Maurice Raynaud. Dr. Raynaud discovered blood flowing to the extremities stops due to a spasm in blood vessels going to the toes, nose, fingers and ears. The spasms are caused by stressful events or exposure to the cold, and the areas affected by the Raynaud attack turn colors: white, blue, and various shades of red.

People who suffer with cold hands due to Raynaud's report painful cold hand and finger sensations, swelling, hand tingling, cold hand and fingertip numbness and throbbing. They welcome sources of heat to relieve the cold hand and fingertip pain. Infrared heat therapy is helpful for Raynaud's sufferers. When using the computer, a person must grip and grasp a computer mouse and use the hands for typing on the computer's keyboard. This can be a painful experience for the person whose hands and fingers are cold and numb.

Hand therapists report an increase in computer-related hand problems -- Raynaud's is one of the ailments needing attention. There are heated ergonomic computer work aids available for people who suffer with cold hands and fingers. The infrared heated, warm computer mouse plugs into an USB socket on the computer and generates a steady flow of heat for the computer mouse user. Infrared heat is therapeutic and delivers a deep penetrating healthy heat source to the painful hand.

There are other USB heated computer products. The infrared heated, warm mouse pad operates on the same premise as the warming mouse. The heated mouse pad provides a warm surface to rest the hand, thumb and fingers when using the mouse. Using both, the warm mouse and the warm mouse pad is a very good, economical source of heat energy.

To make the therapeutic heat experience even better, insert the warm mouse and heated mouse pad inside a warm, mouse hand warmer blanket pouch. The heat generated by the heated mouse and heated mousepad is insulated inside the mouse hand warmer blanket creating an ultimate hand warmer environment for the mouse hand.

Computer keyboard hands find warmth, comfort and relief from an infrared heated computer keyboard pad placed in front of the keyboard. The warm pad plugs into an USB socket on the computer and operates on the same premise as the warm mouse and heated mouse pad. The warm keyboard pad is made using a sponge interior providing ergonomic support for the wrists, hands and fingers. The warmth provides a steady, economical source of heat for the computer keyboard hands. Plus, the pad is a perfect resting area for the elbows.

Although there's no known cure for Raynaud's, there are ways to keep warm when using the computer. For more information about infrared heat, visit ValueRays.com. For more information about help for cold hand pain and ways to keep warm, visit the Learning Center at IGMproducts.com.

How to Save Power and Lower Your Electric Bill

!: How to Save Power and Lower Your Electric Bill

As energy costs continue to soar, many of us are looking for ways to lower electric bills. Also, as more and more of us are becoming conscious of the environment, we would like to find ways to save power simply to reduce damage power consumption does to the environment. The good news is that there are many ways to reduce electric bills and save power.

First, consider the obvious ways to lower electric bill totals in your home. For instance, if you are not in a room, turn off the light. Turning off a light in your home will save hundreds of watts of power consumption each day. Also, eliminate any lights that are not really needed in your home.

Another way to reduce electric bill amounts for your household is to raise the temperature on your thermostat when the air conditioner is running. In the winter, lower the temperature if your heat is electric. This will cause the air conditioner and furnace to run less often, thus saving you money on your electric bill. Statistics show that every degree you change the temperature will create up to a 3% change in energy costs. A couple of degrees will not likely change how comfortable you feel in your home, but they will make a big difference in your attempt to save power.

Now, there are also some helpful devices you can use to save power in your home. First, replace your incandescent light bulbs with the compact fluorescent bulbs you have been seeing. Yes, these bulbs cost a lot more than their incandescent counterparts, but they also last much, much longer. In fact, they last around 10 to 13 times longer than regular light bulbs. Additionally, they use around 1/3 as much electricity as regular bulbs. They will easily pay for themselves over a year as you notice that they reduce electric bill totals each month that you use them.

Another device you can install in your home to save power is the Power Save 1200. The Power Save 1200 will lower electric bill amounts by reducing the amount of power that is wasted by some of the appliances in your home. Many appliances, such as air conditioners, freezers, washer, vacuums, and fans, use inductive motors. These motors ask for electricity from the transformer every time they need to run. This process creates heat in the motors and the wiring. This heat is actually wasted energy, because it is created by electricity. The Power Save 1200 will store electricity in the home and release it to these motors when they are ready to run. This eliminates the heat in the motors and the wires, which can reduce electric bill totals as much as 25%.

Another device to use to save power is an electronic thermostat. How many times have you left home, only to remember that you forgot to turn the thermostat down or up, depending on the season? An electronic thermostat can be preprogrammed to change the temperature after you have left for work, and then change it again just before you come home. Also, it can lower or raise the temperature after you have gone to sleep at night, and then change it back around the time you need to wake up. This will save you substantial amounts of power by not wasting energy on heating or cooling your home when you do not need it to be heated or cooled.

While we are all facing higher electric bills than ever before, being proactive and taking these steps to save power can help. You can reduce electric bill amounts by utilizing a little common sense and a few new pieces of technology. The ability to save money and power is there, but it's up to you to do something about it in your home.

Electric Blanket Reviews

!: Electric Blanket Reviews

With the winter nights coming, there is nothing nicer than climbing into a lovely warm bed. With some many different models available, electric blanket reviews are a handy way to decide which one to buy.

There are many brands on the market from Sunbeam to Biddeford to Sealy. I think Sunbeam electric blankets are excellent value for money. The materials used are very soft and most models come with an auto off safety feature. Very handy if you are like me and tend to forget to turn it off.

When you buy an electric blanket, queen sizes can be quite frustrating as they never appeared to fit my queen bed. One side is always left a little short. The sunbeam queen box premium heated blanket was my best investment so far. Not only does it provide ample cover for my bed but it also gives dual control. This has stopped the arguments over one of us being too hot while the other was freezing. With my husband working occasional night shifts, it has also saved us money. I would recommend this to all of my friends.

The Biddeford electric blanket is also good value for its price. Not only does it heat up very well but it also gives ample coverage for a queen size bed. I do wish they would tone down the colors though as personally I find the blues and burgundy a little strong for bedroom colors. Perhaps they would fit in a child's room better? But if you ignore this small aesthetic issue, these blankets do heat up very well although the dial is very sensitive so the temperature can change in your sleep. They are machine washable which is a plus factor in our house when breakfast in bed often end ups over it!

Sealy electric blanket queen is also a good model to buy with most users saying that it worked very well at heating the bed. With prices from upwards you are not going to break any budget buying this make. The most common complaint is that they can be difficult to wash but the good news is that the size of the king and queen electric blankets weren't criticized.

Personally I have never used a soft heat blanket as they are outside my budget for my little luxuries. I would be very interested in trying one though as they look and feel fabulous. However reading some other electric blanket reviews on this make, I think I may have made the right decision in not buying one. The main problem appears to be that the soft heat electric blanket doesn't last for very long whereas both Biddeford and Sunbeam seem to last for years.

It does pay to look at electric blanket reviews when purchasing your new product. The last thing you want is to buy something that is supposed to leave you with a nice cozy feeling but instead you end up with frozen toes and an empty wallet.

We’ve designed a safe and incredibly soft electric blanket that is probably one of the most comfortable blankets you'll ever have the luxury of snuggling up in. This electric blanket starts with super soft micro-plush fabric and decorative triple-ribbed design that is refreshingly smooth next to your skin for the ultimate in luxurious comfort. Constructed within the blanket is the patented Safe & Warm low-voltage technology. This low-voltage blanket includes a small power supply box that changes 120 volt AC home current into non-hazardous low voltage DC current (very similar to a battery) to provide warmth, protection and safety even if the blanket becomes wet. Unlike other warming blankets with their thick bulky wires, the wires in the Soft Heat blankets are so small and thin; they are virtually unnoticeable. During construction we place the thin wires 3-inches apart and evenly distribute them from head to toe. The benefit to you is a blanket that gives more of an even heat and all over penetrating warmth with no annoying hot or cold spots. The king size blanket is divided in two separate zones and comes standard with two easy to read, easy to turn, non-slip computerized controllers to adjust the temperature of each side of the bed giving individual comfort and control. A giant backlit display with auto dimming feature provides more convenience for night time adjustments with out having to turn on the lights. It has an automatic pre-heat and hold feature that makes sure that your bed is warm and cozy before you climb in for the night. You simply turn it on and the blanket will warm up on HI until it reaches the temperature that you pre set your dial on and then adjusts itself to hold it there. For your safety, convenience and power conservation it has an automatic shut off feature that will shut the blanket off after 10 hours just in case you forget. It also comes standard with built in over-temperature protection for that extra bit of safety and peace of mind.

Solar Blankets - A Smart Buy for Your Pool

!: Solar Blankets - A Smart Buy for Your Pool

When it comes to outdoor swimming pools, you have your pool heaters, pool filter, and possibly even some flotation devices for your kids. But do you have solar blankets? Supplies such as the ones mentioned are the ones that you need so that you can make your time at the pool more enjoyable as well. The following are some thoughts and suggestions for the best locations to find the best blankets, in addition to how you can save some of that hard earned money when you purchase these as well as other pool accessories from preferred sources.

How They Work

Solar blankets are an ideal item for families that prefer to swim more often than most, because it gives you the ability to keep the pool open more frequently. How the blanket accomplishes it's main task is to trap heat from the sun as it is draped over your pool, so you are capable of heating the water in a natural manner, and you will be able to swim even in the fall season because the sun will keep the water at a comfortable temperature. Also, typically solar blankets are somewhat less expensive than an elaborate swimming pool heating system.

There are an assortment of different blankets that you can find for your pool, however the quality solar blankets are constructed of resin, which is resistant to water. The blanket should also be equipped with tiny pockets that are designed to trap dirt as well as pollutants that may otherwise get trapped within your pool.

You can also buy blankets that are made from aluminum added to their material; what this accomplishes is the aluminum acts as a heat conductor, so the water is heated faster, and is kept warmer for extended periods of time. This is particularly helpful if you own a smaller size swimming pool, and wish to use it as a makeshift hot tub on certain instances where you simply want to relax and do not necessarily wish to go for a swim.

Added Design Functionality

While the majority of these solar blankets are of a light to medium blue in color (mostly for matching the color of the water) clear diamond colors are reasonably new creation to the solar blanket that might be a better selection if you own a larger pool. The air pockets located inside the blanket are diamond-shaped, as opposed to circular in shape, as in the majority of solar blankets.

What this accomplishes is the process of heat retention is quicker as well as more effective. Hence, you will be able to keep your pool heated including in the months where the weather might be too cold for swimming in other regions.

If, on the other hand, you own a smaller pool, or wish to be certain that your pool is not completely too cold to take a swim in, you might wish to think about buying solar sun rings. They are not as big as solar blankets are, and you might need to buy more than one so that you can cover the pool, however they work with your pool's integrated installed heating system to keep your pool somewhat warmer each day.

If you have a smaller pool, or want to make sure that your pool is not entirely too cold to swim in, you may want to consider purchasing solar sun rings. They are not as large as solar blankets, and you may have to purchase a few in order to cover your pool, but they work with your pool's installed heating system to keep your pool just a little warmer every day.

Electric Blankets or a Hot Water Bottle?

!: Electric Blankets or a Hot Water Bottle?

Winter nights can be very, very cold - so cold, in some places, that no matter how many blankets and quilts you put over yourself, you never seem to get any warmer. The solution to the problem, of course, is to snuggle yourself under an electrically heated blanket: just plug it in, and keep warm. Seems easy enough, right?

Well, not really. Unfortunately, electric blankets have got something of a negative reputation. As recently as a decade ago, they had a tendency to injure their users, by causing electric shocks, burns or even fires. Older electric fires are still causing thousands of fires a year today, and people who can't feel heat can still be burned even by safer modern electric blankets.

Used carefully, however, electric blankets can be safe, as long as you make sure to buy a new one (never buy one second hand) and check that you are sensitive enough to heat to feel if it gets too hot. You may also consider simply using the electric blanket to warm the bed up before you get into it, but not actually sleeping underneath the electric blanket, instead unplugging and removing it before you go to bed. Make extra sure that the blanket never gets wet, and that you don't use it together with any other blankets. Finally, you should replace the electric blanket every few years, or sooner if it starts to look like it is in bad condition.

For many people, though, having to deal with all these risks to use such a simple thing seems too much trouble. The best and most common alternative to the electric blanket is probably the hot water bottle, as hot water bottles cool down rather than getting warmer over time, and can be fitted with special soft covers to avoid burning you. They are also much cheaper.

Digital Controller Features Biddeford Controllers all posses the following features to aid in your comfort and safety. Microprocessor Controlled Sensing Features allow Biddeford Blanket to: More accurately maintain that specific level of warmth you desire, Update you on any issues the blanket may acquire during use, such as a broken wire, Automatic shut down the blanket if a safety issue arises, Solid state design for quiet operation, Large easy to read displays, Our Auto-Off feature provides the sense-of-mind that allows you to enjoy your heated product to its fullest extent as you cozily drift off to sleep, not having to worry about waking up to turn off the blanket. Blanket Heating Wire Features Though Biddeford Blankets still sends electricity through a single resistive conductor to provide heat, the similarity between today's heating wire and that of old end there. Your Biddeford Blanket utilizes a newer, three part heating wire technology in the form of a Fusible Linked Dual-Wound Wire. This wire uses a specially shaped and helically wound Resistive Heating Conductor in order to provide more efficient heating in the space provided. The Resistive Heating Conductor is then surrounded with a Fusible Material. Simply put, this means that this material will signal at a specific temperature. And finally, a continuous Senor Wire is then wrapped around the Fusible Material. When these three parts are assembled to produce one heating wire to pass through the blanket: The Fusible Linked Dual-Wound Wire will provide heat in a short amount of time after turning power on. The Sensing Wire acts like a thermostat by sensing the change in temperature and accurately telling the controller to stop or add more heat. The middle Fusible Material will react at any hotspots in the blanket that are at abnormally high temperature conditions. The Controller is designed to detect this reaction and immediately shut off power to the blanket.
